Bethel, Alaska is a remote town with about 6,300 people, more than half of whom are Yupik natives. It’s about an hour by plane from Anchorage and can’t be reached by road. There are about 50 nearby native villages, and around 25,000 Yupik people live in difficult conditions, facing problems like alcohol addiction, broken families, and lack of education for young people.

To help, Eastern Presbyterian Church started a new church called Bethel Eastern Presbyterian Church in September 2021. Along with Korean Christians, they began serving the local native community. About 10 people now worship there regularly, praying for chances to share the gospel. Upon a new pastor's arrival in August 2025, the church hopes the mission work will grow stronger. We believe God started this mission, and we trust that He will bring good results. With that faith, we continue to serve and obey.

알라스카의 벧엘시는 인구 약 6,300명 중 절반 이상이 ‘Yupik’ 원주민으로 구성된 지역으로, 앵커리지에서 비행기로 한 시간 거리이며 육로로는 접근이 어려운 외딴 지역입니다. 이곳을 따라 상류로 올라가면 약 50여 개의 원주민 마을들이 있고, 총 25,000여 명의 Yupik 원주민들이 열악한 환경 속에서 알코올 중독, 가정 붕괴, 청소년 교육 문제 등 여러 어려움 가운데 살아가고 있습니다.

이에 LA동부장로교회는 2021년 9월, 벧엘동부장로교회를 개척하여 한인 성도들과 함께 현지 원주민 선교를 위한 사역을 시작했습니다. 현재 약 10여 명의 성도들이 예배를 드리며 복음을 전할 기회를 위해 기도하고 있으며, 2025년 8월 새 담임 목사 부임을 계기로 선교 사역이 더욱 활발해지기를 기대하고 있습니다. 이 사역은 하나님께서 시작하신 일임을 믿고, 그분께서 반드시 선교의 열매를 맺게 하실 것을 확신하며 순종하고 있습니다.

On the first Saturday of every month, after early morning service, we hold a street outreach for the homeless near San Pedro and 5th Street in downtown LA. Since the summer of 2019, this ministry has continued every month without a break.

We begin with worship, praise, a short message, and prayer right on the street. Then we share warm chicken noodle soup, bread, donuts, water, bananas, hygiene items, clothes, and shoes.

Some people ask for prayer or spiritual counseling, and some even offer a thanksgiving offering, which deeply touches our hearts every time.

We pray that through this ministry, those burdened by life will experience God’s love, come to know Jesus Christ, and begin a new life in faith. We trust that God will continue to lead this ministry.

매월 첫째 토요일 새벽예배 후, LA 다운타운 San Pedro와 5th Street 인근에서 노숙자들을 위한 거리 선교를 진행하고 있습니다. 2019년 여름부터 지금까지 한 달도 빠짐없이 이어져 온 이 사역은, 거리의 한복판에서 찬양과 말씀 선포, 기도로 예배를 드린 후, 따뜻한 치킨 누들 수프와 빵, 도넛, 생수, 바나나, 위생용품, 의류와 신발 등을 나누어 드립니다.

기도를 요청하거나 신앙 상담을 원하는 이들도 있고, 감사헌금을 건네는 노숙자도 있어 매번 큰 감동과 위로가 됩니다. 삶의 무게에 짓눌린 이들에게 하나님의 사랑이 전해지고, 복음을 통해 예수 그리스도를 믿고 새로운 삶을 살아가게 되기를 소망하며, 이 사역이 하나님의 인도하심 속에 계속되기를 기도하고 있습니다.

On the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, from 10 AM to 12 PM, we visit Burlington Convalescence nursing home to spend time with the elderly through worship, praise, and prayer. After the service, we share thoughtfully prepared snacks and enjoy warm fellowship. Sometimes, special songs or instrumental performances are offered, and we sincerely pray that the elderly will experience joy and peace from heaven through these moments.

Some residents have been long-time believers, and we encourage them to keep their faith and hope in Christ until the day they enter heaven. Others do not yet have assurance of salvation, so we earnestly pray that through worship, they may encounter the Lord, gain firm faith, and spend the rest of their lives with the hope of heaven.

매달 둘째와 넷째 목요일 오전 10시부터 12시까지, Burlington Convalescence 양로원을 방문하여 어르신들과 함께 예배와 찬양, 기도의 시간을 갖고 있습니다. 예배 후에는 정성스러운 간식을 나누며 따뜻한 교제를 이어가고 있으며, 때로는 특송이나 악기 연주를 통해 노인들의 마음에 하늘로부터 오는 기쁨과 평안이 임하기를 간절히 기도합니다.

그중에는 오랫동안 신앙생활을 이어온 어르신들도 계셔서, 천국 가는 그날까지 믿음을 지키며 주님 안에서 소망을 품고 살아가시도록 돕고 있습니다. 또한 아직 구원의 확신이 없는 어르신들도 함께하며, 이분들이 예배를 통해 주님을 만나고 확신 있는 믿음 안에서 천국을 바라보며 여생을 살아가시도록 마음을 다해 기도하고 있습니다.

Every Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM, we hold an art ministry for about 30 individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. After a time of praise, a short message, and prayer, we engage in drawing and various crafts, sharing joy and creativity. We also enjoy a warm time of fellowship over a lovingly prepared meal.

This ministry is grounded in the belief that each person is precious and priceless before God, and we serve them with love and care. Pastor Andrew Park leads the ministry, and Deaconess Haena Kim serves as the coordinator. Many volunteers also join with joy each week, serving through food and offering kind, caring hands.

매주 수요일 오전 10시부터 낮 12시까지, 약 30명의 신체적‧정신적 장애를 가진 형제자매들을 위한 미술교실 사역이 진행되고 있습니다. 찬양과 말씀, 기도로 영혼을 돌보는 시간을 가진 후, 그림 그리기와 다양한 공예 활동을 통해 기쁨과 창의력을 나누고, 정성껏 준비된 음식을 함께 나누며 따뜻한 교제를 이어가고 있습니다.

이 사역은 이들 한 사람 한 사람이 하나님 앞에 천하보다 귀한 존재임을 믿고 사랑으로 섬기는 귀한 사역입니다. 박앤드류 목사님께서 총책임자로 수고하시며, 김해나 권사님이 총무로 섬기고 계십니다. 더불어 여러 자원봉사자들이 매주 기쁨으로 참여해, 음식으로 섬기고 따뜻한 손길로 함께하고 있습니다.
